The opening day of this years Champions Tennis saw Great Britian's Greg Rusedski take on the Moroccon Younes El Aynaoui on Wednesday afternoon. Rusedski was broken in the opening game by the Moroccon who went on to take the opening set 6-4. Rusedski levelled the match by taking the second set 7-5. The winner was decided by a 10 point tie break set. Rusedski raced into a 5-1 lead before El Aynaoui reduced the deficet to just a single point at 9-8. Rusedski won the next point with a superb lob to open his Group B campaign with victory.
Great Britian's Ten Henman was in action not once, but twice on Thursday and had mixed fortunes. In the afternoon session he was beaten by Belgium Xavier Malisse 6-4, 7-6. Henman led 5-3 in the second set but failed to close out the set. Malissee made it two wins out of two in the Group after completing victory against Pat Rafter on Wednesday evening. Henman faced Rafter in the evening session and grounded out a hard fought 6-3,5-7,12-10 voctory. In the Championship tie-break Rafter stormed into a 7-1 led before Henman fought back to complete a fine comeback.
