Surrey Scorchers narrowly missed out on victory against Cheshire Phoenix in their latest BBL game, by losing by just two points on Sunday evening in Cheshire 82-80.
The visitors at one point trailed by 23 points down (32-9) before a dramatic fightback found Scorchers edging ahead to lead 80-75. But an over and back turnover followed by an unsportsmanlike foul allowed Cheshire back into the game, with Malcolm Riley grabbing the winning three pointer with seconds remaining.
Scorchers had a nightmare first period, trailing 30-9 at the end of the period. At the break Scorchers had reduced the deficit to just two points to go in at the buzzer down 40-38. Scorchers turned the game on its head in the 3rd quarter, by leading for the first time in the game 63-59. With nine seconds left the visitors had a slender one point lead, only for Riley’s three pointer to snatch victory away from Scorchers.
Tony Hicks top scored for Scorchers with 23 points with Alex Owumi hitting 18 points. For the hosts, Robert Sandoval claimed 26 points.
