Woking made it six consecutive league victories in a row, after an early strike from Toby Edser set them on their way. An Own goal from Tom Gardner secured all three points as the Cards continued their relentless pursuit of Torquay at the top of the table.

The Cards went into the game on the back of a scoring spree that had yielded seven goals in their last two matches. Within ninety seconds, Woking had added another goal to that total when Toby Edser finished well inside the area after good work from Jake Hyde. Despite the early setback The Sports gradually got themselves back into the contest and almost drew level when Joel Rollison cut the ball back to Dean Cox, the former Leyton Orient stalwart should have done better, but failed to get his shot on target.

The visitors were steadily getting themselves back into the game by giving Woking problems down their left-hand side with Rollison finding space in the area, but his effort went wide of the post before Harry Taylor failed to get an effort on target, by dragging a shot wide.

Woking- who had looked a little flat towards the later part of the first half- had a glorious chance to double their advantage at the start of the second half when Edser played in Hyde, but his effort went over the top. The hosts doubled their advantage following a long ball from Craig Ross which found both Tom Gardner and keeper Mark Smith going for the same ball with Gardner’s looping header sailing over Smith into the net.

Despite the Cards holding a two goal cushion the hosts still didn’t look comfortable with a half chance falling to Rollison which went wide of the mark. This was to be his last action of the match when he was replaced by Adam Liddle.  With ten minutes remaining the Cards almost grabbed a third when Nicky Wheeler’s curling shot was parried by Smith into the path of Noel Leighton, but somehow, he missed the target from three yards out.  It mattered little as Woking deserved victory, despite not being at their best.

Manager Alan Dowson wasn’t happy with the first half performance. “First half we were pathetic, I thought I got it wrong. I should off given a few players a breather. We were sluggish first half, lucky to be one up.I didn’t make any sense at half time, all I did was swear”.

Eastbourne gaffer Jamie Howell was honest in defeat. “Disastrous start, got back into the game. We don’t take our chances and concede soft goals, that combination isn’t very good.
