Champions Tennis. Day 1 Royal Albert Hall

On the first day of the Champions Tennis event at the Royal Albert Hall, the crowd were treated to a very entertaining days play.
The opening singles match of the afternoon featured a Group A clash between Australian Pat Rafter and Xavier Malisse from Belguim.
Malisse broke Rafter in the seventh game of the opening set before a struggling rafter- who had already called for medical assistant- had to pull out, after Malisse took the first set 6-4.
Britain’s Greg Rusedski stepped in a short notice to play Malisse in a one set match. In a compelling battle it was the Belgium who made it two wins in the afternoon by beating Rusedski in a tie break 8-7.
The evening session saw the opening match in Group B, with Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain up against Australian Mark Philippoussis.
The Aussie broke Ferrero in the eighth game of the opening set and successfully held his serve to take the first set 6-3. Ferrero, playing at the Royal Albert Hall for the first time, leveled the match 7-6 on a tie break. The Spaniard closed out the final 10 point tie break set, to get his campaign of to a winning start.
