Harlequins were blown away by a rampant Wasps side 22-44 at the Stoop on Sunday in the Aviva Premiership.
Despite being level 15-15 after 41 minutes, the hosts conceded a further three tries. Charlie Matthews crossed for a late consolation try, but Josh Bassett went over late in the game to wrap up a comfortable victory.
The match was only four minutes old when a perfect Dan Robson grubber kick found Juan De Jongh who dotted down via a deflection of the posts. Danny Cipriani added the extras to give the visitors the early advantage. Marcus Smith hit back for Quins with a penalty, but from the resulting restart Thomas Young touched down in the corner. Quins though they had hit back shortly afterwards, but Tim Visser was narrowly short of the line.
Wasps were reduced to 14 men when Kyle Eastmond saw red after two direct hits on both Ross Chisholm and Smith. After 25 minutes Quins had reduced the gap to just two points after Visser crossed. Wasps were handed a penalty three minutes later when Cipriani slotted over to give the visitors a 15-10 lead at the break.
Within one minute of the restart Harlequins had levelled the match after a box kick from Wasps Robson was gathered by Aaron Morris who raced clear to go over in the corner. Cipriani, with the boot restored Wasps lead, which they extended with two tries in two minutes. Thomas Young dotted down in the 49th minute with a turnover ball for Wasps found Cipriani with a break, which eventually saw Willie Le Roux cross. Cipriani added the extras to stretch the visitors lead to 17 points. Quins Archie White went into the bin for collapsing the maul, and from the resulting line out Tom Cruse crossed.
With ten minutes remaining Quins scored their third try of the afternoon when Charlie Matthews was shoved over. There was still time for Wasps to add another try following a brilliant grubber kick from Cipriani who found Bassett who went over. Quins kept pressing to try and get the try bonus point, but Wasps defence held firm to deny the hosts.
