Essex defeat Lancashire inside three days, to move up to 2nd. 12th J

Essex recorded a third win of the Specsavers County Championship season by defeating Lancashire by five wickets inside three days at Emirates Old Trafford.
Essex won the toss on the opening morning and elected to bowl. The hosts were dismissed for 301, with Joe Clarke top scoring with 79. For the visitors both Simon Cook and Simon Harmer shared three wickets apiece.
Essex managed to nudge into the lead, albeit for just a single run, as they were bowled out for 302, with Alistair Cook making 58. Tom Bailey finished with 4-54 for the home side with Australian Joe Mennie- who at one stage had 3-8 in 23 balls- finishing with 3-83.
Lancashire were brushed aside in their second innings, after Essex dismissed the home side for just 105 with James Porter taking 5-30 and Simon Harmer 4-34.
Set 105 for victory Essex, thanks to an unbeaten 36 from Ravi Bopara, squeezed past their target with the loss of five wickets, to move up to second in the table behind Surrey.
Meanwhile, the County have announced today that Australian International Peter Siddle, will return to the club on August 1st, and will be available for all competitions.
Siddle, will be available for eight Vitality Blast games, as well as three Specsavers County Championship matches against Somerset, Hampshire and Surrey.
The club have also announced that Captain Ryan ten Doeschate has received a penalty under the ECB’s Fixed Penalty Directives, and will miss the next two matches for Essex.
