Flames complete double over Lightning in League and Cup. 5th November2018

A Calle Ackered powerplay goal less than a minute into the third period proved to be the winner in a 5-2 Cup victory against the visiting Milton Keynes Lightning at the Spectrum on Sunday.
The visitors were out of the blocks the quickest and within 45 seconds had opened the scoring through Michael Fine. Flames levelled with Clay Anderson serving a delay of the game penalty, Guildford took advantage when TJ Foster fed Kevin King with a one timer that beat Patrick Killeen in the Lightning net at 3:04.
Lightning quickly restored their lead within 18 seconds when Andreas Valdix netted, only for Ian Watters to fire the puck under the bar and in to the net to tie the contest with 5:38 played.
Flames outshot their opponents 14-6 in the first period and 19-9 in the second, despite no goals from either side in the middle period.
Within 53 seconds of the third period Flames took the lead for the first time in the game when Ackered- on the powerplay- netted. Ben Davies then nudged Guildford two goals clear with a goal at 50:41.
With three minutes to go Lightning took their netminder of for the extra attacker, but this backfired as Jez Lundin completed the scoring for Flames with an empty net goal at 57:37.
It was a winning weekend for Guildford, having beaten Milton Keynes on their home ice on Saturday in the League 2-1. Flames were indebted to Ackered who secured both points for Flames with the winning goal with only one second remaining in overtime.
