A Liam Stewart hat-trick enabled Flames to inflict a second defeat in a row against Milton Keynes Lightning.
On Boxing Day Flames travelled to Milton Keynes and came away with a 3-0 victory. 24 hours later Flames hosted Lightning on home ice, and completed a 7-2 victory. The patient crowd had to wait until 8:30 before the action began, due to the Milton Keynes bus breaking down on route to Surrey.
When the action eventually got under way Flames were on the board first when a 5 on 3 powerplay was converted by Jesse Craige at 3:22. Calle Ackered added another powerplay goal on 14:50 as the hosts took a 2-0 after the first period. Near the midway point of the contest Liam Stewart was hauled down on a breakaway, with Flames awarded a penalty shot. Stewart converted the penalty shot to give the home side a three-goal advantage. By 36:27 a John Dunbar effort gave Flames a comfortable four goal cushion. In the third period Ben Campbell netted at 50:18, only for Lightning to finally get on the board thanks to Kevin King’s effort at 53:51. There was still time for Stewart to complete his hat-trick after netting at 56:00. Lightning hit back eight seconds later when Christian Isackson scored. But the last word went with Flames when Rhett Rachinski grabbed the final goal of the game at 57:02 to complete a terrific 24 hours for the Surrey club.
