Scott Borthwick’s unbeaten 82 guided Surrey to a comfortable draw against Worcestershire in the County Championship at the Kia Oval.
In a very flat Oval pitch that produced 1,133 runs, a draw always looked the likely outcome.
On the opening morning Surrey won the toss and had no hesitation but to bat first on a belter of a track. The hosts racked up 434 with Captain Rory Burns falling seven short of a double century. He received solid support from Ben Foakes who made 72. For the visitors Joe Leach took 4-96.
The visitors replied with 526, thanks to 157 from youngster Joe Clarke and half centuries from Travis Head and Ed Barnard. 19 year-old off spinner Amur Virdi was the pick of the home attack, picking up 6-105.
By the time stumps was drawn early on the final day, Surrey had reached 173 for 3 when they declared. The hosts picked up 9 points in the match with the visitors taking 11 points.
