Hampshire secure Karunaratne signing ahead of new season. 28th February 2019

Hampshire have signed Sri Lankan Captain Dimuth Karunaratne for the first half of the 2019 season.
The 30-year-old batsman has signed a deal to become the Club’s overseas player for the opening half of the campaign. Karunaratne, will feature in both Specsavers County Championship and the Royal London One-Day Cup competitions.
Karunaratne was appointed captain of the Sri Lankan Test side in February, and in his first series at the helm, led his side to a historic 2-0 victory against South Africa, and the first team from Asia to win an away test series against the hosts.
The left-hander has made more than 50 Test and 17 ODI appearances since making his debut in July 2011. The Colombo born batsman has scored more than 4,000 runs to date in his test career, with eight centuries.
The Sri Lankan has always wanted to play in the Championship. “It has always been my dream to play in the County Championship, and I couldn’t be more happier for it to be at Hampshire” said Karunaratne.
