Middlesex completed an astonishing one wicket victory against Leicestershire at Grace Road in their latest Specsavers County Championship Division Two match.
In a match that was a perfect advert for championship cricket, Leicestershire won the toss and elected to bat. The hosts made 427 with Colin Ackerman unbeaten on an agonising 196 and former Middlesex player Neil Dexter scoring 66. For Middlesex, Tim Murtagh produced fine figures of 5-60.
Middlesex replied with a total of 233, with Dawid Malan making an unbeaten 78 and Paul Stirling 52. For the hosts Zach Chappell took 5-64.
Leicestershire struggled in their second innings, before being bowled out for 186. This represented a recovery after loosing Paul Horton for a duck to James Harris’s fifth delivery. Murtagh continued his fine form with the ball by picking up three wickets along side Harris, also taking three wickets.
Set a difficult 381 for victory, the hosts pulled of a superb run chase, thanks to vital contributions from Stevie Eskinazi 97. Hilton Cartwright 80 and a crucial unbeaten 58 from Harris which saw Middlesex over the line.
