Onn the day that Woking commemorated 1,000 games at Level 5 of English football, the Ravens spoiled the Cards celebrations with strikes from Jordan Higgs and Roger Johnson, to condemn Woking to another home defeat.

Woking made two changes to the side that suffered a 2-1 defeat at Maidenhead on Tuesday, with Anthony Cook and Nathan Ralph in for Matt Young and Louie Thephanous.

After very few chances in the first half from both sides it was the visitors who broke the deadlock in the 31st minute following a long throw into the box which Woking failed to do with, the ball fell to Jordan Higgs who stopped low to send a header past Nathan Baxter. Despite a lot of huffing and puffing from the Cards the hosts had a chance to draw level on the brink of half time when a fine last-ditch tackle from Roger Johnson denied Regan Charles-Cook.

Woking’s woes continued in the 67th minute when they conceded once again from a set piece. Following a corner, a shot came in which was saved by Baxter, the ball fell to Johnson who slotted home. With time running out Jason Goodliffe threw on both Fabio Sariava and Jonny Edwards to try and get something from the game, but the Ravens always looked comfortable holding on to their lead. The defeat means that Woking can realistically hope that Barrow don’t pick up another point in their remaining games, and must now aim for two wins from their remaining games against Guisely (a) on Saturday and Dover at home in two weeks’ time to stand any hope of maintaining their National League status.
