Scorchers get back to winning ways against the Sharks. 17th February 20
Surrey Scorchers got back to winning ways again with a 90-69 victory against the DBL Sheffield Sharks at Surrey Sports Park on Sunday.
Led by Captain Tayo Ogedengbe with 19 points and eight rebounds, Tayo received fine support from Quincy Taylor 16 points, Anthony Elechi 15 and seven rebounds and Willie Attwood with 15 points alongside eight rebounds.
Despite 26 points from Dirk Williams and 22 from Captain Christopher Alexander, Sharks slipped to defeat at the hands of Scorchers.
Scorchers were on the front foot from the start of the match by taking an early 6-1 lead. After the end of the opening quarter it was Scorchers who were in control with a 14-point lead at 28-14, thanks to 16 out of 17 successful free throws.
Early in the second period Scorchers were struggling to find the basket until Taylor hit a huge three to give the hosts a nine-point cushion. By the end of the quarter it was Caylin Raftopoulos who started hitting some three pointers, and by half time Scorchers had stretched their advantage to 19 points to lead 51-32.
By the end of the third period the hosts held a 17-point lead, heading into the final quarter.
With Raftopoulos and Ogedengbe hitting three pointers, the hosts extended the gap to 27 points with five minutes to go. By the buzzer, Scorchers had added more points on the board to end up worthy winners and put the disappointment of Friday’s defeat to the Worcester Wolves, well behind them.
