Surrey Scorchers secured their 8th straight home win since the turn of the year, after defeating the Plymouth Raiders in the BBL Championship at Surrey Sports Park on Sunday afternoon 95-82.
Tony Hicks picked up the game MVP award with 27 points. He received solid support from Tayo Ogedengbe with 17 points and Jordan Williams who picked up 12 rebounds, as Scorchers made it a 18-12 record this season.
At the close of the opening quarter Scorchers led 24-18. In the second quarter the hosts stretched their lead to nine points. The visitors gradually dragged themselves back into the game to tie the quarter, with the Surrey outfit leading at half time 48-42.
Raiders, in the shape of Joonas Jarvelainen kept the visitors in the contest by chipping away at the total. At one stage they had reduced the deficit to just two points, before the home side went all guns blazing to record their biggest lead of the night by 16 points. A three-point bucket from Ogedengbe finished the scoring for the third quarter with Scorchers having a 71-60 advantage going into the final quarter. The visitors threw everything they could at Scorchers, but the hosts held on to record another home W, and maintain their high position in the standings.
