Surrey Storm returned to winning ways after completing a very impressive 51-44 victory against USW Sirens at Surrey Sports Park on Saturday evening.
Following neat passing play, Storm took the opening quarter 17-10.Tallisa Haynes entered the fray as WD in the second quarter. The quarter was very hotly contested, with both teams excelling in defence and attack, but it was the hosts who came out on top, to go into the break leading 30-21.
The visitors upped their game in the third quarter, and it was down to some superb defence from the partnership of Jo Tripp and Lorraine Kowalewska to keep the visitors at bay. Jade Forbes -Wattley came on as WD with a shade over five minutes to go in the quarter, and thanks to some fine efforts from both Sigi Burger and Katie Harris, Storm went into the final quarter with a 13 goal cushion, leading 45-32.
There was some late biting of finger nails by the home fans as Sirens closed the gap to seven goals with several minutes remaining, but thanks to Georgia Lees and Forbes-Wattley they regained control of the match, to see the hosts home for an impressive win, and in so doing managed to complete the double over Sirens this season.
