Surrey Storm suffered their second defeat to Severn Stars in the course of three days, after going down 51-42 to the Worcester side at Surrey Sports Park on Bank Holiday Monday.
The hosts started the brighter, and were 6-1 up early on thanks to good work from Sigi Burger and Katie Harris. Stars fought back, thanks in the main to Laura Malcolm, as the visitors narrowly shaded the opening quarter 11-10.
Strong performances from Lorraine Kowalewska and Jo Tripp in dfence could not halt the visitors as they went into the break with a nine point cushion, to lead 27-18.
Tania Hoffman made some tactical changes in the second half, with Georgia Lees coming on for Tallisa Haynes at WA and Yasmin Parsons moving to Centre. Despite lots of turnovers from Storm, their shooting let them down at critical times- registering only 72%. Where as the visitors were hitting a high 80%. At one stage Stars had increased their advantage to 12 points before Storm pulled a goal back before the end of the third quarter.
Storm threw everything at Sam Bird’s side, but it was the visitors who held on-despite some very strong Storm defence-to record back to back victories against the Surrey outfit.
